PSP’s educator’s toolkits

To help youth delve deeper into their understanding of PSP’s films, we felt it would be great if educators could use them in their classrooms. To make this an easy task for teachers, we’ve created these toolkits with lesson plans, activities, and additional resources for grades 1-4, 5-8, 9-12 and post-secondary levels that will stimulate a deeper understanding and critical analysis on the films, while still keeping students on track with their curricula requirements. To make the issues featured in our films relevant to the lives of students, we’ve designed the activities to be engaging and fun, while at the same time requiring minimal external resources and little time from the teacher. We’ve even included direct links to the Ontario curriculum, clearly demonstrating how these activities are in line with current curricula expectations for all different subject areas.

These activities have been piloted in classrooms and have been written with the input of teachers by PSP’s Education Outreach Team. If you would like to have PSP in your classroom, have questions about this toolkit, or would like to offer us your feedback, we’ve love to hear from you. Please let us know how you are able to use and share these resources! Feel free to email us at info@theparadigmshiftproject.org.

What these educator’s toolkits facilitate

The activities in these toolkits centre around active student and teacher participation. It’s our hope that students will connect with the people and ideas presented and be inspired to participate in experiential inquiry. The short documentaries that accompany our toolkits feature interviews with community members and grassroots activists discussing and demonstrating the initiatives they’re leading to work toward solving the socio-economic and environmental challenges they face. These films and the participatory activities that accompany them have the potential to connect students and educators with individuals and realities around the world, and to ignite and empower learners to work towards positive systemic changes. These activities present complex socio-economic and geo-political concepts through the stories of individuals. Through engaging with the film and active participation in fun activities, global issues become accessible, relevant and relatable for students. By connecting with and deconstructing social inequalities through activities and film, students will begin to see themselves as social actors whose role is essential in working toward global equality. By engaging the whole student, both emotionally and intellectually, PSP’s toolkits help develop an ethos of social responsibility within the classroom and beyond.

What the heck is a Prezi?

A Prezi is a presentation that allows you to embed multimedia, like clips of our films. It’s like a powerpoint, but with more interactivity. All Prezis for our projects can be viewed here online and/or downloaded free of charge.

How do I get a copy of the toolkit?

You can view and download the kits online from the Scribd box above, or fill out this form, and return it to us at info@theparadigmshiftproject.org and we’ll email you the kits free of charge within a day of receiving your form.  If you’d like a hardcopy of our toolkits, including DVD copies of the film, purchase these online at our store.
