Hi everyone! The project is off to a fantastic start here in Lima! It’s been an extremely busy and productive first week. We’ve interviewed local NGOs EcoCiudad, IDMA, and IPES, and urban farmers in the communities of Villa Maria de Triumfo and Pachacamac in Lima.
The projects here are absolutely incredible: in an arid desert, in some of the country’s poorest communities, organic gardens of fresh produce are thriving and feeding families.
I always find it so inspiring that despite so many odds- in areas lacking resources, capital, infrastructure, and even stability- these amazing community projects are so successful in addressing the needs of the local people. With the help of local NGOs, these projects are now self-sustaining, and are helping groups of women to finally feel secure in their ability to provide food for their families.
I feel so fortunate to have been able to speak with these incredible communities, and I look forward to being able to share their views with the rest of you very soon!
Rebecca
