our objectives & activities
Here’s a little bit of info on our objectives and how we go about achieving this work in Canada and abroad:
Objective 1: To advance education in Canada and other developed countries on issues relating to poverty, ecology, health and community development in developing countries by conducting research, creating documentary films and other educational materials, and developing and delivering public workshops and lectures.
Activity 1: Research
a)Identifying, through scholarly and experiential research, social and environmental issues in international development, and finding communities affected by these issues through initial field research, in order to design a field project and its corresponding education initiatives. All projects will be undertaken at the consensus of the Board of Directors, after careful consideration of the project’s budget, logistics, ethics, feasibility, educational viability, and local necessity.
b)Conducting field research to film footage of local communities and conduct needs assessments to be used in educational materials. The Paradigm Shift Project maintains the rights to filmed footage and its corresponding research; however our materials are always produced to be non-exclusive. Participants are advised of their rights prior to commencement of their involvement, when informed consent is obtained. All research will be made available at no cost to the public through our website and other online forums for educational use.
Activity 2: Production of Education Materials
a)Compiling of research footage into a short documentary film, including editing and English-language translation. In the future, we hope to have all films available in French as well.
b)Writing curricula guides to accompany each film for educators to use.
c)Publication of materials on The Paradigm Shift Project website and other online forums.
Activity 3: Education Initiatives
a)Conducting classroom presentations, guest lectures and workshops in both public and private schools, at primary, secondary, and postsecondary levels.
b)Holding public lectures, including screenings of documentary films with accompanying educational information sessions.
c)Providing online education resources on The Paradigm Shift Project website and other online forums for the public and mentored non-profit organizations including films, photographs, curricula, research, and mentorship advice.
Objective 2: To advance education in developing countries by providing training, workshops, documentary films and other educational materials, and technical assistance to help communities obtain support from donors and institutions in developed countries to solve challenges of poverty, ecology, health and community development.
Activity 4: Education of Communities in Developing Countries
a)Educating local communities and organizations during the field research period, on a number of topics including how to produce and use educational materials and educational programming to advance their work. Our involvement with these organizations is exclusively service-based, and does not exist in any financial capacity. Said organizations are selected based on their need for training, and criteria including but not limited to the following: demonstrated excellence in their own work; community-based participation and leadership; ethical responsibility; relevance for Canadian society; involvement of persons with disabilities, women, aboriginal, or marginalized members of society; a lack of international support; and a need for educational materials to advance their work.
b)Maintaining contact with these communities to provide further support where required.
